Fishing was very good in the lake and when camping we usually lived on the fish we
caught in addition to homemade bread and butter, fruit and vegetables, etc., given to us without cost by the Prouds.
We also obtained our drinking water from an outside well, powered by a windmill, which was just to the east of the
house. Members of the family came down to our camp to visit with us. I have some pictures of our early camp taken in
1905.
After camping at Proud Lake for several years, ten or twelve years elapsed before I did any
more camping.
When I did start again it was at a different location and which was then known as Clam Landing. This was a bend in the
Huron River about one-half mile west of Proud Lake. The Proud Lake area now includes this site and is now used for
group camping. A bridge was build across the river at this point by the previous owners who operated a fishing and
hunting club and who also erected a clubhouse.
