Letter by Harold F. Gardner

( hand-written, dated November 14, 1955) 10043 Beechdale Avenue Detroit  Mr. P.K. McWathy, Secretary Huron-Clinton Netr. Authority 1750 Guardian Bldg, Detroit

Dear Sir: Confirming my verbal conversation with you relative to my early visits to Proud Lake and the former Jubenville, Farm adjoining this lake, and also in accordance with your request, I am giving you below a brief history of these visits as well as a history of the former owners, etc. I regret that I am late in sending you this information, but thisFriends of Proud Lake has been due to my efforts in locating some of the older residents who live, or formally lived, in the vicinity of Proud Lake. My first visits to this lake was on or about 1904. The Proud family, of course, then lived in the old farm house and which is now occupied by your tenant, Mr. Cox. In order to reach the lake in those early days it was necessary to take a Pere Marquette passenger train from Detroit to Milford, then hire someone to drive you out the lake, either in a horse and buggy or hire a local drayman to do so.
